We examine the origins of Irish Traditional music and take a look back at the folk and ballad music phenomenon of the 1960s in Ireland which became known as the ‘Ballad Boom’.
We look at the musicians at the centre of all this and how many became household names.
A number of them have earned legendary status for their enormous contribution to, and impact on, Irish music.
We also have a first-hand account of the 1960s folk music scene in Dublin from one of the performers.
